Astellas Farma Brasil was recognized as the number one place to work in the pharmaceutical industry. The ranking, prepared by the Great Place to Work Institute (GPTW), surveyed thousands of employees of the companies involved. For the second year, Astellas Farma Brasil was recognized for creating a culture that empowers its employees to focus on the needs of patients and customers while successfully balancing their personal lives and careers.

"Being honored by GPTW for two consecutive years is a testament to the effectiveness of our human resources practices. We had excellent results in our employee engagement surveys and human resources has a strategic role in the growth of Astellas in Brazil,” said Luiz Claudio Dutra, general manager of Astellas Farma Brasil. “We will continue to support business needs in terms of creating a suitable culture to attract, develop and retain top talent.”

Astellas Named One of America’s Best Employers in 2015 by Forbes Magazine

Astellas has been named one of America’s Best Employers in the biotechnology industry by Forbes Magazine. The list is a first of its kind for Forbes, based on a survey of over 20,000 anonymous respondents from across the country. The independent study conducted by Forbes asked individuals how likely they are to recommend their employer. The data was compiled into a list of the top 500 employers across 27 different industries.

“Astellas is constantly working to be an employer of choice for top talent around the world by providing first-rate benefits, flexible work hours and a unique, inviting and trust-centered culture,” said Collette Taylor, senior vice president, Human Resources and Facilities. “This recognition is reflective of our efforts to continually evaluate our culture and our dedication to attract, develop and retain key talent.”

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s Above and Beyond Award

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s Above and Beyond Award

The Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, presented Astellas with the ESGR Above and Beyond Award in recognition of outstanding support to its employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. The award is given in limited numbers by ESGR state committees to employers who go well above the basic requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, or USERRA, in supporting their Guard and Reserve employees and have had at least one of their supervisors or managers recognized with a Patriot Award. It is the second highest ESGR award given at the state level.

Astellas is also one of 80 Illinois employers of Guard and Reserve employees to have been nominated for the 2015 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. Nominations for the Freedom Award must come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member.

Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index

Astellas received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is a national benchmarking tool used to rate companies on policies and practices concerning lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employee equality. The survey rates business practices on a 100-point scale and assesses six core areas: human resources, diversity, staffing, counsel/legal, marketing/communications and corporate giving/foundation relations.

“Astellas takes workplace equality seriously and strives to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for the LGBT community, which is very much linked to our core tenets of serving patient needs, enthusiasm, results, communication and integrity,” said Linda Friedman, Senior Vice President General Counsel, and Executive Sponsor of Astellas’ LGBT Employee Resource Group.

CEO Cancer Gold Standard Accreditation

Astellas Pharma US earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation from the CEO Roundtable on Cancer. This accreditation recognizes Astellas' efforts to reduce the risk of cancer among its employees and their family members by establishing a tobacco-free campus and discouraging the use of tobacco products; promoting physical activity and other healthy choices, such as a healthy diet; encouraging cancer screenings to allow early detection; and ensuring access to quality healthcare.

Astellas has been named a Top Workplace for 2010 by the Chicago Tribune, which selects the 100 top employers to work for in the Chicago area. Astellas finished 14th among midsized companies and was the only pharmaceutical company to make the list. Companies are selected from employee surveys measuring qualities that include company leadership, career opportunities, workplace flexibility, and compensation and benefits.

Chicago's 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For

The National Association for Business Resources named Astellas a winner of its Chicago’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For award two years in a row. Astellas was the only pharmaceutical company among the 2010 winners.

The association recognizes companies that demonstrate high performance in communication, community initiatives, compensation and benefits, diversity and multiculturalism, employee education and development, employee engagement and commitment, recognition and retention, recruitment and selection, and work-life balance.

Astellas Named One of Top Employers for Scientists

The Scientist magazine has named Astellas one of the top employers for scientists. Astellas ranked No. 9 among for large companies in the 2010 survey. The magazine cited tuition reimbursement and professional development, matching of employee charity contributions, and five days per year of paid volunteer time off for all employees as reasons for the ranking. Astellas thanks all of the scientists who participated in the magazine’s online survey.
